As part of International Women in Engineering Day, we’re celebrating our female key workers who have been working through the COVID-19 pandemic to keep your homes safe and warm.

Laura Lindsay, a Traffic Management Planner in our London East depot, says a career in engineering offers a variety of opportunities in different job roles and that working alongside our project managers has inspired her to work towards becoming one herself.
Laura said: “A career in engineering appealed to me because of the new challenges, opportunities and sense of achievement available to me. As a planner, I plan multiple projects simultaneously, working with various project managers, contractors, local authorities, and traffic management companies. From raising the permits to organising the traffic management, to planning any suspensions and, if possible, arranging collaborative working with other utilities, no two days are the same.”
Charlotte Hawkins is a Project Manager at our Thames Valley depot and was inspired to pursue a career in engineering after watching a documentary on the construction of the Channel Tunnel. In our video, she tells us about some projects she’s currently working on including a complex river crossing and replacing a 1km section of pipe.
Jaydene Mullineaux is a Project Manager in our Wessex depot and in our video talks about how she got into engineering as it was the right time in her career to learn something new. Jaydene said: “I’m so grateful that SGN has given me the opportunity to learn all the technical things about gas mains that I would never have come across.
"I love learning and growing and there’s just so many factors that I’m really lucky to experience to develop myself.”
