We're preparing to start essential gas network upgrades in Granby Industrial Estate and surrounding Weymouth roads.
From Monday 6 January, we'll be replacing our old metal mains with new plastic pipe to help ensure nearby properties continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas.
This work has been split into several phases to help minimise disruption in the area. The start dates for each of the phases are subject to change based on progress, the condition of the pipes when we excavate and accessing properties to connect services. We'll continue to update residents and businesses on our progress here on this page.
Due to the location of the gas main in the carriageway, and to ensure everyone's safety, we need to implement various traffic management controls during our network upgrades. Phase and traffic management information can be found below.
Phase three
Cambridge Road
Our engineers will begin upgrades in Cambridge Road from mid-February. They'll be working between Cumberland Drive and Albany Road.
During this phase, Cambridge Road will be closed to motorists between these junctions. Signed diversions will be in place for affected road users. Access will be maintained for residents and businesses located inside the closure area.
Phase seven
Radipole Lane
Our work area will then progress into Radipole Lane in June.
We'll be upgrading our gas network between Radipole Lane's junctions with Cumberland Drive and Wessex Roundabout.
For everyone's safety, we'll need to shut Radipole Lane between these junctions to road users. Signed diversions will be in place during this closure.
We appreciate roadworks can be frustrating and disruptive for the community. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of approximately 80 years. This means that once the replacement pipe is installed, Weymouth residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.
