Road closures for essential gas main replacement
Our contractor JDT will be replacing the gas main in the Sheborne area. These essential works involve the replacement of old metal gas pipes with new plastic pipes to ensure we can continue to provide residents with a safe and efficient gas supply.
Due to the location of the gas main and the width of the road, we’ll need to have temporary road closures in place as follows:
Update: Monday 16 September
To help ease local traffic congestion, we will implement the following changes to our work programme.
From the end of the day on Monday 16 September, we will stop works on Coombe between the junctions of Marston Road and Blackberry Lane. The team will continue to work along Coombe from the junctions with Blackberry Lane and Nethercoombe Lane under the road closure.
When work is complete on Oborne Road and Castle Town Way, we will reintroduce the closure on Coombe between Marston Road and Blackberry Lane to complete the outstanding work.
Thank you for your continued patience and support.
From Monday 26 August to Friday 18 October
Phase one: from Monday 26 August to Thursday 1 September, Coombe will be temporarily closed for a week at its junction with Marton Road to complete initial connection works.
Phase two: from Monday 26 August to Friday 18 October, Coombe will be closed for the completion of gas main replacement from its junction with Marton Road to Mulberry Gardens.
Oborne Road and Castle Town Way, Sherborne
From Monday 9 September to Friday 1 November
Oborne Road will be temporarily closed from its junction with Castleton Road to its junction with Castle Town Way. Castle Town Way will also be closed from its junction with Oborne Road to its junction with Castle Road.
These closures will mean no through vehicle access past the closure point. Signed diversion routes will be in place for road users.
Important information
Access will be maintained for properties within the closure – the site team will liaise directly with those affected to explain access arrangements and appropriate signage will keep road users informed.
Bus route impacted – we advise passengers to contact their service provider for the latest update on changes to bus stop locations, routes and timetables.
Some residents will require their gas service pipes to be connected to the new main we’re installing. Affected residents can expect to receive further information from SGN explaining the work involved.
