From Monday 23 September to Friday 17 January 2025, our contractors JDT Utilities Limited will start work on the Sandbanks peninsula as part of the wider gas network replacement scheme already underway in the local area. Due to the location of the gas main in the road, for everyone’s safety, varying traffic management will be required - details below.
To support the ferry operations and Brownsea Island, we've planned this work around their shutdown periods for maintenance.
The following outlines our phased plan.
Phase one: Monday 23 September – Friday 1 November
We’ll be working on Brownsea Road, Seacombe Road, Grasmere Road and Salter Road under give and take with parking suspensions on all roads as we progress along the road.
Phase two: Monday 4 November – Friday 15 November
The team will be working on the ferry slipway; the loading bay outside the shops will be suspended.
Phase three: Monday 4 November – Friday 17 January 2025
We’ll be working along the Banks Road and Panorama Road peninsula under lane closures with parking suspensions as we progress.
Phase four:
Once works are complete along Banks Road and Panorama Road, we will use temporary two-way lights along Banks Road between its junction with Panorama Road to outside Rumsey Holiday Homes, with parking suspensions as we progress along the road.
Phase five:
Once works are complete outside the businesses, we will use temporary two-way and three-way traffic lights along Banks Road between its junction with the car park roundabout and outside 85 Banks Road with parking suspensions as we progress along the road.
In addition to the above, signed diversion routes will be in place throughout the project.
Bus services will be affected: bus stops will be suspended during the works - please contact your service provider for the latest updates.
We’ll keep residents informed of access arrangements as the work progresses.
We appreciate our work and traffic management may be disruptive for residents, road users and those driving to and from the ferry. We’re sorry for the inconvenience these urgent replacement works may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.
