Clapham, A3 Clapham Common North Side

MAR

Update - Friday 28 March

We've completed the first phase of our work ahead of schedule.

We're preparing to start the next phase in Marney Road on Wednesday 2 April. This phase will last approximately three weeks.

For everyone's safety, we will need to close Marney Road at its junction with Clapham Common Northside. We will also need to temporarily suspend some parking spaces in Marney Road to provide enough room for our equipment. To maintain access for residents, Marney Road will temporarily be made two-way.

We're preparing to carry out essential network upgrades along A3 Clapham Common North Side to ensure nearby homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply.

Our engineers will be replacing our old metal mains with new plastic pipe from Monday 17 March. This work is expected to last approximately five weeks.

To ensure everyone's safety, we need to install temporary traffic lights along A3 Clapham Common North Side around our work area. These lights will ensure traffic flow can be maintained safely pass our site and excavations in the carriageway. They will be in operation for the five-week duration of our work.

Some side roads will also be affected by this work.

  • Sisters Avenue will be closed to motorists at its junction with the A3 for the first three weeks of our work.
  • Once we have finished our work at Sisters Avenue, we will need to close Marney Road at its junction with the A3 for the final two weeks of our project.

Signed diversions will be in place for affected road users. Residential and commercial access to properties within our closure areas will be maintained. All businesses will remain open around our site.

During our work, we recommend you please do the following:

  • Please advise visitors and delivery drivers of the closure areas
  • Please allow additional times for your journeys
  • Please check with your local service provider for any updates to bus services, schedules or stops

We understand roadworks can be frustrating for road users, residents and businesses. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years. This means that once the work is complete, the Clapham community will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.
