We’re continuing our work to replace our pipes in Station Approach after a leak was discovered on this section of our network earlier this year.
We recognise this essential work has caused significant disruption over an extended period and we’re doing everything we can to complete this complex network project as soon as we can.
To help maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to Chislehurst properties, our engineers planned to replace the affected pipes, rather than repair it when the leak was detected. However, due to the pipe's proximity to other utility pipes underground, we have been unable to replace this particular section of our network currently, and it was subsequently passed to a specialist company who are skilled to carry out the type of repair required here.
We’re hopeful of completing this section of work tomorrow, before progressing onto nearby Summer Hill from next week. Some tree-cutting needs to be carried out to enable us the safe space to access our pipe in Summer Hill – we’re liaising with specialist tree surgeons and the local authority to organise this and allow us to begin the next phase of our stopple operation in Summer Hill.
When we can start the operation, signed diversions will be in place for affected motorists while Station Approach remains closed. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation around our work area in Summer Hill from Monday 18 November. Please allow additional time for your journey. Bus services may be affected by our project - please check with your local provider on updates to stops, routes or times of buses.
